Incredibly Tall Chimneys: Perm State District Power Station - Russia

This is 1 in a series of unbelievably tall/prolific chimneys that we will be highlighting, resurrecting content archived from around the web.

Perm state district power station

The decision to build a large power plant in the Perm region was made in the early 70's.
Several sites were considered - in the Kungursky, Krasnokamsky and Dobryansky areas.
The construction of a state district power station in the Dobryanka area began in 1976, but as early as 1974 newspapers wrote that it would be the most powerful thermal station in the USSR, consisting of 6 power units of 800 thousand kilowatts each.
The scale is incredible: the length of the main building of the station is 600 meters, the height of the pipes (which, they say, can be seen from Perm from the Gaiva, and certainly seen from any district of Dobryanka) is 330 meters, the height of the boilers is 102 meters, and the boiler room is 114 meters.

It was assumed that the station would operate on coal, but in 1981 a decision was made to transfer power units to natural gas.

I often read that the Perm State District Power Plant is the largest in Europe. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
Contrary to the initial plans, only three out of six boilers were launched, so only one pipe smokes. The second - to the next three boilers.
The first was launched on June 30, 1986. This date is considered the birthday of the company.
The second boiler was put into operation on December 28, 1987, and the third on March 30, 1990.
In 1991, the construction of the state district power station stopped. Now at the station almost everything is ready for the installation of the fourth boiler, but when it will be delivered, it is not known.
It is curious that housing, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, roads were erected along with the state district power station, and these facilities were built "based on six boilers."

I will not describe the principle of operation of the IES (or state district power station), because I myself do not understand anyone interested, read somewhere.
I managed to visit the "workshops" - in the halls and the chemical water treatment department.
The scale, I repeat, is astounding. Everything is huge. Everywhere is clean and tidy. Control panels - there are three of them at the state district power station, by the number of boilers - like the spacecraft’s cabin (entrance is strictly forbidden, but you can look at a dozen monitors and hundreds of light bulbs through glass doors).

Unfortunately, you can’t take pictures of the enterprise, but I’ll show you two workshops

These are mock-ups from the Perm State District Power Plant Museum, which holds more than 14.3 thousand exhibits of each other more interesting - historical documents, photographs, maps, diagrams, devices, crafts, diplomas, and awards.
The museum has three halls, 8 exhibits are placed in them: "People are the pride of the enterprise", "Nature and we", "The Beginning of Beginnings", "Electricity of Russia, the Western Urals, Dobryansky District", "Construction", "Start-ups of Blocks", " Annals of workshops and departments "," Operation ", can be considered for hours.
